Nadal, Murray advance in straight sets

LONDON, June 22 (UPI) -- Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray claimed straight-set wins Wednesday in second-round play of the Wimbledon Championships.

Nadal, the world No. 1, ran his personal Wimbledon winning streak to 16 matches with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 win over Ryan Sweeting. Nadal didn't face a break point until he was up a break in the third set.

He finished with more aces (nine) than unforced errors (seven). Sweeting didn't help his chances with 10 double faults.

Murray, seeded fourth, took out Tobias Kamke 6-3, 6-3, 7-5, facing only one break-point situation. Murray won 74 percent of the points on serve.

No. 6-seeded Tomas Berdych, last year's runner-up, blitzed Julien Benneteau 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 behind six service breaks, and eighth-seeded Andy Roddick defeated Victor Hanescu 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in the final men's match completed Wednesday.

Ninth-seeded Gael Monfils was a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) winner over Grega Zemlja and No. 10-seeded Mardy Fish took out Denis Istomin 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, 6-4 while No. 15 Gilles Simon beat Dudi Sela 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, 7-5.

Richard Gasquet, seeded 17th, also claimed a third-round spot with a win Wednesday.

Among upsets Wednesday, Simone Bolelli slipped past 14th-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, 7-6 (7-4); Robin Haas took out 21st-seeded Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2; Alex Bogomolov Jr. stopped No. 25 Juan Ignacio Chela 6-0, 6-3, 6-4, and Gilles Muller advanced when 31st-seeded Milos Raonic suffered a leg injury in the first set and retired.

Unseeded players headed to the third round include Ivan Ljubicic, Lukasz Kubot and Feliciano Lopez.

First-round winners Wednesday included Kevin Anderson, Grigor Dimitrov and Dmitry Tursunov.
