NBA: Dallas 112, Miami 103

DALLAS, June 10 (UPI) -- Jason Terry keyed another late Dallas surge Thursday that moved the Mavericks to the brink of an NBA title with a 112-103 victory over Miami.

Terry hit two 3-pointers during a 13-2 run down the stretch, allowing Dallas to reach the high-water mark in franchise history. The Mavericks own a 3-2 lead in the NBA Finals, needing a victory in Game 6 or, if necessary, Game 7 to claim their first league championship.

Dallas will have its first chance to win the title Sunday in Miami. A seventh game, if needed, would be played in Miami Tuesday.

The Mavericks put on an offensive show to lead for much of the contest but Miami went on a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to take a 99-95 advantage.

Dwyane Wade, who suffered a hip contusion in the first period and sat out part of the game as a result, hit a 3-pointer that gave Miami it's four-point lead with 4:41 to play.

The Heat scored only two points during the next 4 minutes while Dallas was seizing control.

Terry tied the game at 100-100 on a 3-pointer with 3:25 remaining and Dirk Nowitzki put the Mavericks in front for good with a layup 38 seconds later.

Jason Kidd added a 3-pointer for Dallas and when Terry hit another 3-point shot with 33 seconds to play the Mavericks had built a 108-101 cushion.

In taking their first lead of the NBA Finals, the Mavericks had by far their best offensive showing of the series. They hit 56 percent of their shots from the field and were good on 13-of-19 shots from 3-point range. In their Game 4 win two days earlier, Dallas had hit just 4-of-19 from beyond the arc.

Nowitzki added to his playoff heroics by scoring 29 points, making half his 18 shots from the field and all 10 of his attempts from the foul line. Terry had 21 points and backup point guard J.J. Barea, who had been held in check during the series, broke loose for 21.

Wade scored 23 points, missing time in both the second and third quarters while receiving treatment on his hip. He suffered the injury in a collision with Brian Cardinal of the Mavericks. Wade was called for a foul on the play.

LeBron James, held to less than 10 points for the first time in his playoff career during the previous game, scored 17 but missed all four of his tries from 3-point range.
