NBA: Dallas 86, Miami 83

DALLAS, June 8 (UPI) -- Dirk Nowitzki scored 21 points and hit a key layup down the stretch Tuesday and the Dallas Mavericks beat Miami 86-83 to even the NBA Finals at 2-2.

Jason Terry came off the bench to score 17, hitting two free throws in the closing seconds after Dwyane Wade pulled the Heat to within one on a slam dunk with 9 seconds to play.

Wade led Miami with 32 points and Chris Bosh added 24. LeBron James was held to eight points on 3-for-11 shooting from the field and led the Heat with nine rebounds.

Nowitzki, who was shaking off a bout of the flu Tuesday, grabbed 11 boards.

The series resumes Thursday in Dallas.
