NHL: New Jersey 4, Toronto 2

NEWARK, N.J., April 6 (UPI) -- Ilya Kovalchuk opened the scoring and added an assist Wednesday, helping the New Jersey Devils to a 4-2 victory over Toronto.

The Devils took a 3-0 lead through two periods before Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak scored for the Maple Leafs.

Martin Brodeur was perfect the rest of the way for the Devils and Patrik Elias clinched it with an empty-net goal that came with 10 seconds to play.

Brodeur made 20 saves while picking up the 625th victory of his career in his 1,131st game. Mattias Tedenby and Henrik Tallinder also scored for the Devils.

James Reimer stopped 18-of-21 shots for Toronto.
