Murray drops first-rounder in Rotterdam

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- No. 2-seeded Andy Murray was a straight-set upset victim Wednesday in a first-round match at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in the Netherlands.

Marcos Baghdatis topped Murray 6-4, 6-1 in 61 minutes. Baghdatis had five service breaks in eight Murray service games and improved to 3-1 in his career against the world No. 5 Murray.

Neither player had control of the first set, which saw five service breaks in total, but Baghdatis won 71 percent of the points in the second set.

Marin Cilic also eliminated a seeded player, taking out No. 5 Jurgen Melzer 6-2, 6-4 in a second-round match. Cilic converted all three of his break-point opportunities against Melzer.

Other second-round matches saw eighth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga just get by Michael Llodra 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Viktor Troicki top Jarkko Nieminen 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.

No. 6-seeded Mikhail Youzhny advanced to the second round with a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) win over Marcel Granollers while Feliciano Lopez ousted Florian Mayer 6-3, 6-4 and qualifier Benoit Paire beat Gilles Simon 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in other first-round matches.
