Melzer opens with win in the Netherlands

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- No. 5-seeded Jurgen Melzer was among first-round winners Monday at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in the Netherlands.

Melzer knocked out wild-card entrant Jesse Huta Galung 6-4, 6-4. Melzer won just four more points in the match but was able to convert three of his six break-point chances to advance.

Huta Galung pounded 11 aces and won 70 percent of the points when he landed his first serve but Melzer won nearly half the points off Huta Galung's second serve.

Viktor Troicki defeated another Dutch wild-card in a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Thomas Schoorel. Troicki saved both break points he faced.

Also Monday, Marin Cilic dumped Mischa Zverev 6-2, 6-4 in a brisk 63 minutes; qualifier Dmitry Tursunov beat Andrey Golubev 6-4, 7-5; and Michael Llodra handed Nikolay Davydenko a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) defeat. It was the third consecutive match loss for Davydenko.

The field in Rotterdam includes five Top 10-ranked players, including world No. 4 Robin Soderling, the event's defending champion.
