NHL: Detroit 2, Vancouver 1 (SO)

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Jiri Hudler scored the only goal in a shootout Saturday and the Detroit Red Wings edged Vancouver 2-1 in a battle of Western Conference powers.

Hudler's shot past Roberto Luongo broke Vancouver's nine-game winning streak and pulled the Red Wings to within one point of the Canucks atop the conference and the overall NHL standings.

A potential game-winning goal by the Wings' Niklas Kronwall late in overtime was waved off when it was ruled Luongo had been interfered with by Detroit's Todd Bertuzzi before the shot.

Johan Franzen got Detroit's only regulation goal and Jimmy Howard turned aside 34-of-35 shots for the Wings.

Daniel Sedin scored his 25th of the season for the Canucks' only score and Luongo ended up making 32 saves.
