NHL: Vancouver 6, Edmonton 1

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Ryan Kesler recorded his second hat trick of the season Friday in pushing the Vancouver Canucks' winning streak to eight games with a 6-1 victory over Edmonton.

The Canucks have won eight in a row for the first time in eight seasons. They increased their league-best point total to 59, two more than Detroit and three more than Eastern Conference-leading Pittsburgh.

Daniel Sedin scored twice for Vancouver and reached 24 goals for the season. Kesler has 23.

After a scoreless first period, Sedin and Kesler combined to produce three goals over the opening 6:36 of the second. Kesler's second and third goals came during the first 11 minutes of the third.

Cory Schneider picked up the easy win by making 24 saves. He won his fifth straight start and improved his record to 8-0-2.

Nikolai Khabibulin allowed all six goals on 33 shots.
