NBA: New Orleans 84, Philadelphia 77

NEW ORLEANS, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- David West and Chris Paul combined for 32 points Monday and the New Orleans Hornets held off Philadelphia for an 84-77 victory.

West netted 17 points and Paul added 15 and five assists for the Hornets, who allowed the 76ers to pull to within three at 80-77 with 39 seconds remaining, but used four Paul points down the stretch to hang on.

Emeka Okafor added 13 points and hauled down eight rebounds in the Hornets' third straight victory.

The Sixers, playing shorthanded in the frontcourt without starters Spencer Hawes and Andre Iguodala, were led by Elton Brand's 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Philadelphia wrapped up an eight-game road trip with a 3-5 record.
