BOSTON, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Daniel Alfredsson's hat trick powered Ottawa to a 5-1 victory over Boston Monday, the Bruins' fifth loss in six games.

Alfredsson scored in the first period and twice in a span of just over 3 minutes in the second.

Alex Kovalev and Jonathan Cheechoo notched Ottawa's other goals and Mike Fisher contributed three assists in the Senators' third straight win.

Ottawa goalie Brian Elliott was credited with 22 saves. Daniel Paille scored Boston's goal.

Starting Bruins goalie Tim Thomas allowed three goals on nine shots before he was replaced by Tuukka Rask, who gave up two goals and ended up with 15 saves.
