J.P. Howell earned his 16th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

The Rays won for the fifth time in eight contests against the Tigers this season, despite only six hits.

Detroit's run scored on a single by Magglio Ordonez in the bottom of the eighth.

Ordonez had two of the six hits for the Tigers, who had won three of four.

Losing pitcher Nate Robertson (1-1) gave up two runs -- one earned -- and four hits in four innings.
