ANAHEIM, Calif., April 18 (UPI) -- A three-run double by Garret Anderson staked Los Angeles to an early lead Thursday and the Angels went on to defeat Kansas City 5-3.
Los Angeles beat the Royals for the first time in seven meetings.
Anderson gave the Angels a 3-1 lead by clearing the bases in the third inning. Erick Aybar doubled home a run in the fifth and later scored on a fielder's choice grounder to make it 5-2.
Jon Garland (2-2) got the win, giving up two runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. Francisco Rodriguez gave up three hits and a run in the ninth, but still earned his sixth save.
David DeJesus drove in John Buck with a third-inning single and Alex Gordon scored on a ninth-inning single by Alberto Callaspo for Kansas City.
The loss went to Brett Tomko (1-2), who allowed all five Angels' runs on six hits in seven innings.
