NBA: Chicago 112, New Jersey 96

CHICAGO, March 18 (UPI) -- Luol Deng scored 20 points Tuesday, sparking the Chicago Bulls to a 112-96 victory over the New Jersey Nets.

Drew Gooden had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Ben Gordon 17 points off the bench for the Bulls, who closed within two games of idle Atlanta for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Vince Carter scored 22 points to pace the Nets. Richard Jefferson had 21 points and Marcus Williams 16 off the bench for New Jersey, which fell one game behind Atlanta in the race for the final spot in the conference.

The Nets host Atlanta Wednesday.
