NHL: Atlanta 3, Pittsburgh 2 (OT)

ATLANTA, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Mark Recchi scored in the fourth round of the shootout Saturday to give the Atlanta Thrashers a 3-2 victory over Pittsburgh.

The first three rounds of the shootout were scoreless, but Recchi then used a backhand to lift the puck over Ty Conklin.

Evgeni Malkin, the last chance for Pittsburgh, had Kari Lehtonen beaten, but his backhand did not get enough height and Lehtonen made a right pad save.

Ilya Kovalchuk and Bobby Holik each scored a goal and Lehtonen made 29 saves in the win for the Thrashers.

Sidney Crosby scored both goals and Conklin made 36 saves in the loss for the Penguins, who saw a season-high eight-game winning streak come to an end.
