SEATTLE, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Luis Rivas had a home run and a triple during an eight-run third inning Wednesday as Cleveland routed Seattle 12-4 in the opener of a doubleheader.
Rivas, playing in only his second major league game of the year, had three hits and four RBI. Casey Blake and Ben Francisco both drove in two runs in support of Fausto Carmona (19-8), who gave up three runs in seven innings.
Carmona won his fifth straight start.
Cleveland began the night a half game in front of Boston in the fight for the best record in the American League.
The loss went to Ryan Ryan Feierabend (1-6), who surrendered eight hits and six runs in 2 2/3 innings.
This was the last of the four games that had to be made up as a result of a four-game series being snowed out in April. Cleveland batted second and was listed as the home team.
