MLB: N.Y. Yankees 7, Toronto 5

NEW YORK, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Jose Molina had three hits and three RBI Sunday to help the New York Yankees beat Toronto, 7-5.

Molina hit a pair of RBI singles and an RBI double as the Yankees pulled within 1 1/2 games of Boston for first place in the AL East.

New York also got three hits and one RBI from Robinson Cano, two hits and one RBI from Derek Jeter, and one RBI each from Johnny Damon and Doug Mientkiewicz. Jeter and Bobby Abreu both had two hits, as the Yankees won two of the first three in the four-game series.

Winner Mike Mussina (11-10) yielded three earned runs and seven hits in seven innings.

Toronto got two runs and two hits from Matt Stairs, including a two-run homer in the eighth, while Adam Lind also had two RBI and Curtis Thigpen had two hits and one RBI.

The losing pitcher was Dustin McGowan (11-10).
