MLB: Boston 3, Tampa Bay 0

BOSTON, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Tim Wakefield gave up only two hits over eight innings Monday as the Boston Red Sox blanked the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 3-0.

Wakefield (14-10) did not allow a hit until the seventh inning. He struck out six and walked two while improving to 18-2 lifetime against the Devil Rays.

Julio Lugo went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Red Sox, who have won three of their last five games. Mike Lowell had two hits and drove in a run, and David Ortiz added a run-scoring double.

James Shields (9-8) was the loser even though he allowed only one run on five hits with no walks in six innings. Carl Crawford and Jonny Gomes both singled for Tampa Bay which has lost three of its last four games.
