MLB: Philadelphia 5, Atlanta 4

PHILADELPHIA , Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Jayson Werth scored the winning run Friday night on a seventh-inning throwing error by Yunel Escobar, as the Philadelphia Phillies edged Atlanta, 5-4.

It was the only run scored after the first inning, when both teams scored four times.

Atlanta scored on a solo home run by Matt Diaz, an RBI single by Mark Teixeira and Brian McCann's two-run double.

Philadelphia got an RBI double by Pat Burrell, a sacrifice fly by Ryan Howard and a two-run homer by Wes Helms.

The winning pitcher was starter Cole Hamels (13-5). Tom Gordon earned his sixth save.

Hamels gave up four earned runs and five hits in seven innings. Gordon set down the side in order in the ninth.

Seven players had one hit for the Phillies, who have won four of their last five games.

McCann had two of the six hits for the Braves, who have dropped two of three.

The loser was Peter Moylan (4-2).
