MLB: Washington 3, San Francisco 1

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Felipe Lopez hit a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning Thursday afternoon as the Washington Nationals beat the San Francisco Giants, 3-1.

His eighth homer this season capped Washington's rally from an early 1-0 deficit, and produced the final runs of the contest.

Lopez was one of four players with two hits, but the Nationals stranded 21 runners while gaining a split of the four-game series.

Winning pitcher Joel Hanrahan (2-0) surrendered an earned run and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, but needed help from five relievers, one closer Chad Cordero, who earned his 25th save.

Reserve catcher Guillermo Rodriguez knocked in San Francisco's lone run with a second inning single.

Rajai Davis, playing left-field in place of Barry Bonds, had a run and three hits, while Omar Vizquel added two hits for the Giants, who stranded 22 runners.

The loser was Patrick Misch (0-2).
