MLB: Tampa Bay 8, Detroit 1

DETROIT, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Scott Kazmir yielded three hits in six scoreless innings Thursday afternoon as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays trounced Detroit, 8-1.

The hard-throwing left-hander walked one batter and fanned seven in one of his most dominant efforts this season.

Tampa Bay's Carl Crawford had three runs and three hits, one a two-run homer in the fifth. Ben Zobrist and Delmon Young also drove in two runs, while a total of five players had two hits for the Devil Rays, who beat Detroit for a second straight time.

Detroit's Omar Infante broke up Kazmir's shutout bid with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.

Marcus Thames -- activated from the 15-day disabled list before the contest (hamstring) -- had a run and two hits, and Placido Polanco also had two hits for the slumping Tigers, who have seven losses in their last 10 games.

The losing pitcher was starter Jeremy Bonderman (10-5).
