ARLINGTON, Texas, July 25 (UPI) -- Ramon Vazquez hit a two-run homer off J.J. Putz in the eighth inning Wednesday, rallying Texas to a 7-6 victory over Seattle.
The Mariners lost their sixth straight, equaling their longest skid of the season.
Seattle scored three times in the top of the eighth -- two of the runs coming on a double by Adrian Beltre -- to take a 6-5 lead. But Texas came back with a big hit against Putz (1-1), who prior to Wednesday had recorded 29 saves and allowed only 28 base runners this season.
Marlon Byrd opened the eighth for Texas with a single off Sean Green. George Sherrill replaced Green and Frank Catalanotto bunted Byrd to second.
That brought in Putz to face Vazquez, who hit a 2-0 pitch over the wall in center.
Joaquin Benoit (4-3), despite blowing the lead in the eighth, picked up the victory. After allowing two runs in the eighth, Benoit retired the side in order in the ninth.
