MLB: Chi White Sox 8, Detroit 7 (2nd game)

CHICAGO, July 25 (UPI) -- Jim Thome, Rob Mackowiak and Tadahito Iguchi homered Tuesday as the Chicago White Sox rallied from six down to edge Detroit 8-7 in Game 2 of a doubleheader.

Paul Konerko's two-run homer and 3 RBI paced the White Sox to a 5-3 win in the day game.

Scott Podsednik scored on Carlos Guillen's error in the eighth inning for the final margin in the second game, which gave Chicago its second straight win after losing four in a row. Thome's seventh-inning homer produced three runs, while Mackowiak finished with three hits and two RBI.

Matt Thornton (3-3) retired one batter in the eighth inning to get the win, and Bobby Jenks came on in the ninth for his 28th save. He had saves in both games. Virgil Vasquez, called up from Class AAA Toledo and making just his second major league start, gave up four hits and two runs over five-plus innings.

Mike Hessman homered and knocked in two runs for Detroit.

Gavin Floyd, recalled from Class AAA Charlotte, surrendered seven runs -- five earned -- on 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings. But Zach Miner (1-2) took the loss in relief.
