NEW YORK, July 1 (UPI) -- Jack Cust hit a three-run homer and knocked in four altogether Sunday as Oakland beat the New York Yankees 11-5.
Oakland secured its victory early with a seven-run second inning.
Eric Chavez had one run, two hits,and three RBI, while Dan Johnson hit a two-run homer, and Mark Ellis and Kurt Suzuki both had one RBI for Oakland. Mark Kotsay had a run and three hits for the Athletics, who scored 18 runs in the past two contests.
Winner Dan Haren (10-2) yielded five earned runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
New York's Bobby Abreu and Andy Phillips both had two RBI. Derek Jeter drove in one run, Phillips had a run and three hits for the Yankees, who have split their last four.
Loser Andy Pettitte (4-6) was torched for eight runs -- seven earned -- on nine hits in 1 2/3 innings.
