MLB: Detroit 15, N.Y. Mets 7

DETROIT, June 10 (UPI) -- Gary Sheffield had four hits, four RBI and two runs scored Sunday as the Detroit Tigers shelled the New York Mets, 15-7.

Sheffield was a double shy of hitting for the cycle. Brandon Inge had three hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in a career-high five runs for the Tigers, who won for the sixth time in their last eight games.

Omar Infante, Ivan Rodriguez and Sean Casey each had two RBI and the Tigers nailed the Mets for 21 hits.

Rookie Andrew Miller (2-0) earned the victory in his second career start, giving up four runs on five hits, with five strikeouts and three walks in 5 1/3 innings.

Tom Glavine (5-4) took his third straight loss, yielding a career-high tying nine runs and a season-high 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings. Glavine has not won since May 19, when he picked up his 295th major league victory.

David Wright hit a three-run homer -- hitting it out for a fourth straight game -- and extended his hitting streak to 12 games for the Mets, who lost for the sixth time in their last seven games. Carlos Gomez also hit a three-run shot for New York.
