MLB: N.Y. Mets 6, Chi. Cubs 5

NEW YORK, May 17 (UPI) -- Carlos Delgado capped a five-run rally in the ninth inning Thursday with a two-run single that made the New York Mets 6-5 winners over the Chicago Cubs.

The Mets trailed 5-1 one out into the ninth inning before they loaded the bases off Cubs closer Ryan Dempster. Endy Chavez worked Dempster for a run-scoring walk and Ruben Gotay singled in a run to make the score 5-3.

Dempster was lifted for Scott Eyre, who was greeted with a pinch-hit run-scoring single by David Wright. Two pitches later, Delgado grounded a single through the Chicago infield to allow two runs to score and give the Mets their seventh win in nine games.

Dempster (1-2) ended up with the loss while New York's Ambiorix Burgos (1-0) collected the win with two innings of no-hit relief.

The Mets built their lead mostly on sixth-inning two-run home runs by Angel Pagan and Aramis Ramirez.
