Just 52 seconds into the game Andy McDonald, who had two assists on the night, was called for hooking. The Flames won the draw on the ensuing face-off and Dion Phaneuf tried a long shot that Moss deflected into the goal.

Alex Tanguay made it 2-0 later in the period with a long slap-shot and Calgary went up by three goals in the second when Stephane Yelle slipped in a backhand shot.

Anaheim converted a power-play chance with 4:55 to go in the second period, with McDonald passing to Scott Niedermayer, who flipped the puck past a screened Calgary goalkeeper Miikka Kiprusoff.
