NBA: Memphis 98, Boston 96

BOSTON, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Rookie Rudy Gay scored the game-winning basket with 2.6 seconds left Wednesday night to give Memphis a 98-96 win at Boston.

Chucky Atkins had 19 points, six assists and three steals for Memphis. Both Dahntay Jones and Lawrence Roberts scored 18 points, Mike Miller had 12 points and eight assists, and Hakim Warrick had 12 points and three rebounds for the Grizzlies, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

On the game-winner, Gay caught a pass from Miller and sank a jumper from the foul line that bounced off the front of the rim.

Paul Pierce had 25 points, three rebounds, four assists and nine turnovers for Boston. Gerald Green had 21 points and three turnovers, while Ryan Gomes and Delonte West scored 12 points apiece for the Celtics, who played without center Kendrick Perkins (foot) and forward Wally Szczerbiak (ankle).

Boston has lost four games in a row.

The Celtics committed 21 turnovers.
