NBA: LA Clippers 96, Denver 95

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Tim Thomas drained three critical three-pointers in the fourth quarter Thursday night to help the Los Angeles Clippers edge Denver, 96-95.

Thomas was signed in the off-season for his long-range shooting ability because the Clippers were the NBA's worst three-point shooting team last season.

Overall, the nine-year veteran forward had 21 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Sam Cassell had a game-high 35 points, six rebounds and six assists; while Corey Maggette totaled 13 points, two assists and seven rebounds for the Clippers (1-1), who lost their season opener to Phoenix Wednesday.

Denver (0-1) had xix players in double figures, led by J.R. Smith, who scored 21 points. Marcus Camby had 16 points and 18 rebounds.

Because of the ejection of Carmelo Anthony, Denver was just 4-for-23 in three-point shooting. Anthony and Earl Boykins both scored 15 points.

The contest featured five lead changes in the final three minutes.
