Blake cruises at Thailand Open

BANGKOK, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Third-seeded American James Blake needed just 46 minutes to post a straight-set victory Wednesday in the first round of the $550,000 Thailand Open.

Blake was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Croatian wild-card entrant Marin Cilic to move into the tournament's second round.

Britain's Tim Henman upset his fourth-seeded countryman Andy Murray 6-4, 6-2 and Russian Marat Safin defeated American Kevin Kim 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

In other Thailand Open matches Wednesday involving seeded players: No. 5 Finn Jarkko Nieminen overcame Argentine Edgardo Massa 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 6-2 and No. 8 Thai Paradorn Srichaphan knocked out Spanish wild card Feliciano Lopez 6-1, 6-4.

The tournament finals are set for Sunday with first place worth $76,500.
