MLB: N.Y. Yankees 7, Tampa Bay 4

NEW YORK, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Hideki Matsui hit a solo home run Thursday night in his first game since May 11 to help the New York Yankees beat Tampa Bay, 7-4.

He suffered a left wrist injury in May while trying to make a diving catch in a game against Boston. The team had not announced his return for Thursday night.

Robinson Cano hit two doubles and drove in three runs; Derek Jeter had one run, two hits and one RBI -- while extending his hitting streak to 23 games; Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run single; and Matsui scored twice for the Yankees (89-56), who have won their last six games in a row.

The winner was reliever Darrell Rasner (2-0).

Rocco Baldelli hit two home runs and had three runs, three hits and three RBI; and Delmon Young drove in a run for the Devil Rays (57-89), who have a four-game losing streak.

The loser was Ruddy Lugo (2-3).
