PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Veteran running back Stephen Davis visited the Philadelphia Eagles Monday to explore whether he can help the injury-plagued team.
Davis, 32, has had his own problems with knee injuries. While he played for 10 seasons with the Washington Redskins and Carolina Panthers, he was sidelined for most of 2004 and had a bad year in 2005.
Eagles coach Andy Reid planned to talk to Davis, who would also get a physical, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
"He has been a pretty good player, very productive in this league and we want to investigate it," Reid said.
Quarterback Donovan McNabb said the decision was not his to make.
"Obviously everybody has talked about needing a power back," McNabb said. "He's not only a bigger running back than the ones we have, but he runs hard and catches the ball out of the backfield. He was successful in Washington and Carolina running screens and picking up blitzes."
The starting running back, Brian Westbrook, injured a foot in the first pre-season game. Ryan Moats has a sprained knee and Cornell Buckhalter just returned after two years off with a torn right patellar tendon.
