MLB: Toronto 12, Seattle 3

SEATTLE, July 26 (UPI) -- Roy Halladay pitched seven strong innings and John McDonald knocked in five runs in pacing the Toronto Blue Jay to a 12-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

Halladay (13-2) allowed nine hits and two earned runs over seven innings Tuesday in improving to 5-0 in his last seven starts. Seattle starter Gil Meche (9-5) allowed seven runs and 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings to take the loss.

McDonald had a bases-loaded walk to cap a four-run Toronto fifth inning and sealed the victory in the ninth with his first career grand slam. Frank Catalanotto also hit a home run for the Blue Jays.

Catalanotto got the Blue Jays on the board the third inning with a run-scoring double and Toronto went up 3-0 in the fourth with a two-run double by Aaron Hill. Toronto chased Meche in the fifth with a run-scoring single from Troy Glaus and a two-run double by Eric Hinske. McDonald's walk made the score 7-0.

The Mariners got a two-run double from Yuniesky Betancourt in the fifth and answered Catalanotto's sixth-inning home run with a Adrian Beltre's RBI single that made the score 8-3.
