MLB: Detroit 5, Chi. Cubs 3

CHICAGO, June 16 (UPI) -- Curtis Granderson doubled, tripled, scored two runs and had an RBI Friday afternoon as Detroit beat the Chicago Cubs, 5-3.

Marcus Thames hit a solo home run; Placido Polanco had one run, two hits and one RBI; and Ivan Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI for the Tigers (44-24), who have won six of their last seven games.

Thames has reached base safely in 30 of his last 32 games.

Winner Nate Robertson (7-3) allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Todd Jones registered his 18th save.

Henry Blanco homered and drove in two runs, while Aramis Ramirez also homered for the Cubs (26-40), who have lost their last four games.

In 1 2/3 innings, loser Glendon Rusch (2-7) surrendered four runs and six hits.

This is the second regular-season meeting between the Tigers and Cubs at Chicago's Wrigley Field.
