MLB: Oakland 5, N.Y. Yankees 2

NEW YORK, June 10 (UPI) -- Frank Thomas lined a two-run homer in the top of the first inning Saturday afternoon to start Oakland on its way to a 5-2 win over the New York Yankees.

Mark Rouse hit a two-run single for his first major league runs batted in; Mark Kotsay scored twice and had one hit; and Marco Scutaro had one run and two hits for the Athletics (31-31), who improved to 7-2 in the month of June with their third straight victory.

Winner Kirk Saarloos (3-4) gave up two runs and only four hits in six innings with three walks and two strikeouts. Huston Street got his 13th save.

Kevin Thompson hit his first major league home run; and Jason Giambi knocked in the other run for the Yankees (35-25), who have lost their last three games.

Losing pitcher Mike Mussina (8-2) yielded four runs and five hits in seven innings.
