NHL: Buffalo 3, Carolina 2

RALEIGH, N.C., May 20 (UPI) -- Ryan Miller made 29 saves Saturday as the Buffalo Sabres beat Carolina, 3-2, in Game One of the Eastern Conference finals.

Jay McKee scored the game-winning goal in the third period, and Daniel Briere and Henrik Tallinder also scored goals for the Sabres. Jochen Hecht and Jason Pominville each had two assists.

Rod Brind'Amour and Mike Commodore scored for the Hurricanes. Cam Ward -- who allowed three goals on 27 shots -- lost for just the second time this post-season.

Game Two is scheduled for Monday night in Raleigh.
