MLB: N.Y. Yankees 4, Oakland 3

NEW YORK, May 13 (UPI) -- A three-run homer by Alex Rodriguez in the first inning Saturday helped the New York Yankees beat Oakland, 4-3.

Derek Jeter also homered, and Johnny Damon had one run and two hits for the Yankees (21-13), who won their 12th straight day game.

Winning pitcher Jaret Wright (1-2) gave up two runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings, walking three and striking out five. Kyle Farnsworth picked up his first save.

Mark Ellis had two hits and drove in a run, Jay Payton had two hits, and Jason Kendall had a hit and an RBI for the Athletics (17-19), who have lost four straight road games and five of their last six overall.

Loser Brad Halsey (1-2), a former Yankee, yielded four runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings with four walks and five strikeouts.

The Yankees placed pitcher Tanyon Sturtze on the 15-day disabled list because of a sore shoulder.
