MLB: N.Y. Yankees 8, Texas 7

ARLINGTON, Texas, May 5 (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez had two hits and three RBI Friday night as he New York Yankees edged Texas, 8-7.

Derek Jeter had two hits and knocked in two; Johnny Damon had two runs, two hits and one RBI; and Bernie Williams had a hit and two runs for the Yankees (16-11), who have won three in a row and five of their last six games.

Winner Mike Mussina (5-1) scattered two runs and three hits over seven-plus innings with no walks and five strikeouts. Closer Mariano Rivera earned his sixth save.

Hank Blalock and Rod Barajas each had a hit and two RBI; and Brad Wilkerson had two hits and scored two runs for the Rangers (17-13), who had a late comeback quelled by Rivera and had their six-game winning streak snapped.

Vicente Padilla (3-2) gave up seven runs and six hits over 3 2/3 innings. He walked five and struck out four.
