NHL: San Jose 2, Ottawa 0

OTTAWA, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Patrick Marleau and Nils Ekman each scored goals Thursday night as San Jose blanked the Ottawa Senators, 2-0.

Joe Thornton and Jonathan Cheechoo had assists on Ekman's goal, while Marleau's goal in the second period was un-assisted. Goaltender Evgeni Nabokov stopped all 40 shots he faced for the Sharks (20-16-5), who have won five in a row.

Nabokov shut out the NHL's highest scoring team.

Ottawa suffered its fourth loss in 21 home games this season. Dominik Hasek made 34 saves for Ottawa, which has lost four of its last six games.

The Senators out-shot San Jose, 40-36. Both teams were 0-for-6 on the power play.
