NHL: Carolina 4, Atlanta 3

ATLANTA, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A tie-breaking goal by Cory Stillman midway through the third period Wednesday night helped Carolina beat the Atlanta Thrashers, 4-3.

For the night, Stillman registered two goals and two assists and extended his points streak to nine straight games. He scored the game's final two goals as the Hurricanes rallied from a 3-1 deficit for their second win in a row.

Erik Cole and Andrew Hutchinson also scored goals, Oleg Tverdovsky, Eric Staal, Matt Cullen, Rod Brind'Amour and Frantisek Kaberle added assists and goaltender Martin Gerber made 23 save for the Hurricanes (25-10-4), who have won two in a row.

Ilya Kovalchuk scored twice, Jim Slater scored the other goal, and Kari Lehtonen made 18 saves for the Thrashers (18-18-6), who had a two-game winning streak broken.

Atlanta out-shot the Hurricanes, 26-22. The Thrashers went 2-for-8 on the power play while Carolina was 2-for-7.
