NHL: Chicago 5, Atlanta 4 (SO)

ATLANTA, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Mikael Holmqvist scored the game-winning goal in a shootout Sunday as Chicago beat the Atlanta Thrashers, 5-4.

Pavel Vorobiev scored twice; Duncan Keith and Jaroslav Spacek each scored once; Patrick Sharp had three assists; Tyler Arnason added two helpers; Matthew Barnaby and Martin Lapointe had one assist and goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin made 33 saves for the Blackhawks (12-14-2), who have won two straight.

Ilya Kovalchuk scored two goals and Marc Savard had a goal and two assists. Marian Hossa, Patrik Stefan, Jaroslav Modry and Bobby Holik all assisted once; and Michael Garnett made 28 saves but stopped only two of five shots in the shootout for Atlanta (11-16-4), who have dropped six of their last seven games.

The Blackhawks won the shots on goal battle, 42-37. The Thrashers were 1-for-7 on the power play while Chicago went 0-for-4.
