BUFFALO, N.Y., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Taylor Pyatt scored three goals Thursday night as the Buffalo Sabres skated past the Washington Capitals, 8-5.
It was Pyatt's first career hat trick.
Tim Connolly added one goal and three assists. Both Adam Mair and Daniel Briere had two assists; Teppo Numminen, J.P. Dumont and Toni Lydman each had one assist; and goalie Martin Biron made 34 saves on the 39 shots he faced for Buffalo (10-9-0), which has won three of four following a four-game slide.
High-scoring rookie Alexander Ovechkin had one goal and one assist, as did Brian Sutherby, Chris Clark and Ben Clymer. Andrew Cassels had a goal, and goaltender Brent Johnson made 19 saves for the Capitals (7-12-0), who have lost three of their last four outings.
Washington out-shot the Sabres, 39-27. Buffalo went 2-for-6 on the power play while the Capitals were 1-for-6.
