Roddick makes the quarters at Paris

PARIS, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Andy Roddick registered a 6-1, 6-2, win over Dominik Hrbaty Thursday in the third round at the Paris Masters.

The tournament's No. 1 seed will face Nikolay Davydenko in the quarterfinals on Friday. Davydenko, the third seed, beat Dmitry Tursunov 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, after shaking off a tough first set.

Sixth-seeded Ivan Ljubicic dumped No. 9 Thomas Johansson, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4); No. 7 Gaston Gaudio beat 12th-seeded Robby Ginepri, 6-1, 6-4; and Radek Stepanek, the eighth seed, ousted crowd favorite Paul-Henri Mathieu, 7-5, 6-4.

Also winning were David Ferrer, who topped Tommy Haas, 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3; Tommy Robredo, who beat Novak Djokovic, 6-4, 6-3; and Tomas Berdych, who upset 13th-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero, 7-5, 6-7 (7-9) 6-4.

The players are battling for a first-prize check of $454,000.
