MLB: Baltimore 4, L.A. Angels 1

ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Sammy Sosa swatted a two-run homer Thursday afternoon to help Baltimore beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 4-1.

With the victory, Baltimore overcame the firing of Manager Lee Mazzilli to snap an eight-game losing streak. Bench coach Sam Perlozzo was named interim manager for the remainder of the season and recorded a win in his first game as skipper.

Eric Byrnes added a two-run triple and closer B.J. Ryan earned his 23rd save of the year with 1 1/3 innings of relief work.

Winning pitcher Rodrigo Lopez, who had struggled recently, raised his record to 10-6. In five innings, he was touched for only the one run and two hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Vladimir Guerrero drove in the lone Angels run with an RBI single. The Angels have lost seven of 10.

Chone Figgins had his 13-game hitting streak snapped.

Loser Ervin Santana dropped to 6-5.
