PHILADELPHIA, July 21 (UPI) -- Jeff Kent's RBI double in the first inning was the game's lone run Thursday as Los Angeles edged Philadelphia, 1-0.

Winning pitcher Odalis Perez (5-5), who had allowed four or more runs in five of his previous six starts, yielded only three hits and one walk through seven scoreless innings. He had seven strikeouts.

Closer Yhency Brazoban retired the side in the ninth to record his 17th save for the Dodgers.

Endy Chavez had two hits for the Phillies, who lost for the third time in nine contests.

Loser Jon Lieber (9-9) gave up one run and five hits in eight innings. He walked one and fanned seven, losing for the fifth time in six decisions.

Philadelphia reliever Ugueth Urbina tossed a scoreless ninth and hasn't allowed a run or hit in nine straight outings.
