MLB: Boston 7, Baltimore 2

BALTIMORE, July 8 (UPI) -- Manny Ramirez knocked in three runs and David Ortiz added two RBI Friday night as Boston dumped Baltimore, 7-2.

Johnny Damon was 4-for-5 with a run scored and extended his hitting streak to 23 games, which is the longest in the majors since Carlos Lee hit in 28 straight with the White Sox last season.

Winning pitcher Bronson Arroyo improved to 7-5. He allowed two runs and six hits over 7 2/3 innings with two walks and three strikeouts.

Baltimore starter and loser Sidney Ponson sank to 7-7. He allowed five runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings. Ponson fanned three with five walks for the Orioles, who have dropped four of five and 12 of 15 overall.

Rafael Palmeiro was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and is now five hits shy of 3,000. He could become the fourth player in history to record 3,000 hits and 500 home runs, joining Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Eddie Murray.
