The fight broke out late in the fourth quarter of a game won by Indiana 97-82 Friday night.

NBA Commissioner David Stern called the incident "shocking, repulsive and inexcusable.

The trouble started when Artest fouled Wallace who retaliated by shoving him. Players left the benches and fans got involved. One threw a cup at Artest, who then went into the stands after the attacker. Artest was joined by Jackson and O'Neal.

Fans headed for the court to fight the Pacers.

"I felt like I was fighting for my life out there," said Indiana's coach, Rick Carlisle.

The game was called with 45 seconds to play.
