Els gains on Singh in world ranking

WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Second-ranked Ernie Els gained a little ground on No. 1 Vijay Singh in the latest Official World Golf Ranking.

Els got closer after winning the World Match Play Championship Sunday.

Singh has 13.48 points and Els 12.12 in the computerized ranking system.

Tiger Woods, who had been the top-ranked player for more than five years until Singh replaced him this summer, remained in the No. 3 spot in the latest rankings, which were released Monday.

Woods has 11.53 points.

Phil Mickelson is No. 4 and Retief Goosen No. 5.

The other members of the this week's top 10 are Davis Love III, Mike Weir, Padraig Harrington, Stewart Cink and Sergio Garcia.
