Singh, Els 1-2 in World; Woods now No. 3

WASHINGTON, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Vijay Singh and Ernie Els are the top two golfers the latest Official World Golf Ranking, with Tiger Woods No. 3.

Singh took over the No. 1 spot from Woods late this summer. Els replaced Woods as No. 2 by winning the WGC-American Express Championship Sunday in Ireland.

Singh, who did not play in the event, now has 14.14 points in the rankings to 12.48 for Els and 12.02 for Woods, who finished ninth in Ireland.

The ranking, which is endorsed by the world's major professional golf tours, is released each Monday.

Phil Mickelson and Refief Goosen retained their fourth and fifth spots. They are followed by Davis Love III, Mike Weir,, Padraig Harrington, Stewart Cink and Sergio Garcia at No. 10.
