BUCHAREST, Romania, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Florian Mayer of Germany beat Arnaud Di Pasquale of France Thursday in the second round of the Romanian Open.
Mayer won 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 6-3 and will meet David Ferrer of Spain in the quarterfinals. Ferrer advanced with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Serbian Novak Djokovic.

Other winners were Italian Filippo Volandre and Victor Hanescu of Romania.
In other quarterfinal matches, fourth-seeded Russian Igor Andreev plays Spaniard Felix Mantilla, Volandri goes against Hanescu and Argentina's Jose Acasuso takes on Paul-Henri Mathieu of France.
