MLB:Seattle 6, New York 2

SEATTLE, May 8 (UPI) -- Edgar Martinez drove in two runs Friday night in the first inning and hit a two-run homer in the third to lead Seattle to a 6-2 win over New York.

Randy Winn and Scott Spiezio singled with one out in the first before scoring on Martinez's 500th career double. Ichiro Suzuki hit an RBI single in the second inning and Martinez followed a base hit by Raul Ibanez with his 299th career homer in the third to give the Mariners a 5-0 cushion.

Franklin (2-2), who lost his previous two starts, surrendered just two runs and five hits while striking out five in six innings.

New York starter Jon Lieber (1-1) was shaky following a solid season debut. He yielded six runs and nine hits in six innings.

Former Mariner Alex Rodriguez singled in the fourth inning to reach base for the 18th consecutive game. Mariners second baseman Bret Boone sat the game out with back spasms, but Jolbert Cabrera started in his place and had three hits and scored a run.
